Politits: Art Coalition

Politits Art Coalition is honored to announce an open call for our 4th annual juried exhibition: We Want As Much, held at The Yards in Rochester, NY. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, created to guarantee and protect (some) women's constitutional right to vote. The centennial offers an opportunity to commemorate this milestone of democracy and to explore its relevance to the issues of equal rights today.

This exhibit gives space to the voices of those who have felt unheard, misrepresented, spoken over, discredited or rejected, in order to start a conversation, to share, reflect and organize during this pivotal time in history.

Sojourner Truth said, “We do as much. We eat as much. We want as much,” in an attempt to unseat the inequality that was the driving force of the Women’s Suffrage Movement. Inspired by her fervor to demand equality for all, we would like to invite all female-identifying or gender non-conforming, as well as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+, individuals creating art in this vein to apply.

Following in the rich tradition of activists like Sojourner Truth, we are calling for these communities to “keep the thing stirring, now that the ice is cracked,” in order to stake a claim to what is rightfully ours. This exhibition is a way of bringing underrepresented identities together to create a striking, visual exploration of the ways their experiences intersect and differ. This year we will accept work from up to 30 artists that demonstrates diversity in process, materiality, and vision; free from censorship.

Two awards will be offered in this exhibition! Award Juror TBA.
