The Public Market is located in the northeast quadrant of the City of Rochester, main entrance is at 280 North Union St., zip code 14609, approximately three blocks north of East Main St.

We recommend entering the Rochester Public Market on Railroad Street or Union Street. Pennsylvania Ave entrance is not always open.

The Yards Collective is always free to visit, except during special events or workshops.

What’s with all the pigeon stuff?! Meet Rochester’s most famous pigeon—Jean Jacket!

On a hot summer evening in 2022, a tiny pigeon tumbled from its nest high above the Rochester Public Market. Too weak to make it back home, the little fluff ball needed a helping hand.

Enter Kristina—our Yards director (and animal lover)—who scooped up the stranded fledgling and called her now-fiancé, who happened to be a pigeon expert. That weekend, after watching the movie Nope, they named the fearless little bird Jean Jacket—and just like that, a legend was born.

Jean Jacket quickly made herself at home at The Yards, strutting through the studio, perching on artists’ shoulders, and stealing the hearts of visitors. She became a symbol of resilience and creativity, inspiring a whole line of Jean Jacket merch that helps support our community programs.

What started as a simple rescue turned into something much bigger—a daily reminder that unexpected magic is everywhere. Stop by on Saturdays to say hi to Jean Jacket and Gordy—read them a book or just tell them how coo they are!
