Write Now: Expressive Arts Journaling Workshops
Art as Activism From social to environmental justice, there are so many rights at risk in the current political climate. Feelings of isolation and helplessness can dim our outlook and limit our views about opportunities to take action. Turn uncertainty to hope by engaging with art as activism in a supportive setting with other creatives. Join us for one or all of the following expressive arts and journaling workshops themed around human and environmental rights:
Sunday, 2/23 3:00pm-4:30pm Free Speech Rocks!
This session focuses on amplifying marginalized voices and experiences through the power of journaling. Using guided imagery to encourage empathy and reflection, we will explore how writing can encourage participants to take action toward a more inclusive, equitable world. Your journal will become a space to not only understand injustice but to challenge it with creative force. Then, set your advocacy and activism intentions for the year by painting a rock that reflects the values closest to your heart. Upon leaving, you’ll be invited to place the rocks around the Rochester area to encourage others to engage and take action.
Sunday, 4/27 3:00-4:30pm Journaling About and With Nature
Our planet is speaking, and its call for help grows louder each day. In this workshop, we’ll listen to the Earth through writing and expressive arts exercises that connect us to the environment. Whether it's climate change, conservation, or sustainabilty, we’ll explore how journaling can help us process our emotions, share our concerns, and inspire action to protect the natural world for future generations.
Sunday, 6/22 3:00-4:30pm Journaling for Women’s Rights
Explore the power of the written word to amplify voices for women’s rights. This workshop invites you to reflect on the struggles and triumphs in the fight for justice. Discover ways to tap into the power of your imagination and learn journaling techniques to dialogue with an image of your own creation that reflects your beliefs and values about the feminine, women’s rights, and female empowerment.
Since expressive arts journaling is about process over product, no artistic or journaling experience is necessary. All materials needed for the workshop are included in the registration fee.
Student Rate is for anyone 18+ who is attending a college or university.
