Welcome to The Yards Collective's 12th-anniversary celebration, where we invite artists of all ages to take flight with their creativity and join us in commemorating this milestone. This year, we're excited to announce the "Peace Pigeon Fundraiser," an exhibition that celebrates the beauty and symbolism of our avian friends, the pigeons and our beloved mascot Jean Jacket.

This is our second Jean Jacket show, the first one was such a success we decided to turn this all ages activity into part of our annual fundraiser. If you haven't met Jean Jacket yet... She is our wonderful studio pigeon who stole our hearts last year when she fell out of a nest right here at the Rochester Public Market. JJ was raised by our Director, Kristina Kaiser. This dynamic duo can be found at The Yards most days we are open to the public. 

 

Theme: This showcase of artworks will pay tribute to the model, the muse, the beautiful bird... Jean Jacket & all of our feathered friends. Pigeons have long been associated with peace, freedom, and unity. They are resilient creatures that have witnessed and survived the tests of time, just like our community art space. For this exhibition, we encourage artists to explore the theme of peace, unity, and tranquility through their artistic interpretations of pigeons/doves/birds. Whether through painting, sculpture, photography, or any other medium, we invite you to share your vision of pigeons and their representation of peace.

Exhibition Dates: December 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023

Submission Guidelines:

  • Eligibility: This call for art is open to all artists, regardless of age or experience level. Three submissions per a person will be accepted.

  • Medium: All forms of artistic expression are welcome, including but not limited to paintings, drawings, sculptures, mixed media, digital art, photography, and more. Show us your unique perspective!

  • Submission Deadline: Please submit your work by November 26, 2023.

  • Submission Fee: There is a small submission fee of $10 per person. This fee directly supports our community art space and its mission. After submitting your artwork you will be sent a follow up email with payment options.

  • Artwork Size: Artworks should be no larger than 24”x24” for 2D works and 12”x12”x12” for 3D works.

  • How to Submit: To submit your artwork, please fill out this google form or the form below.

  • Optional Artist Statement: Along with your submission, you are welcome to provide a brief artist statement (100-200 words) explaining your artwork and its connection to the theme or your experience working with The Yards Collective over the past 12 years.

  • Sales and Fundraising: 15% will automatically be collected to handle NYS sales tax and other processing fees. An additional optional portion of the proceeds from the sale of exhibited art will go towards supporting our community art space, helping us continue our mission of nurturing creativity and providing a space for artists of all ages. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 this year. This will help us to recover some but not all of the money that was defrauded by our former fiscal sponsor in 2023.
