University of Rochester Senior Studio and Seminar Class Exhibition

Three women artists from the University of Rochester delve into the themes of femininity, womanhood, and maternity from their own unique vantage points, revealing both the common threads of shared experience and their vast individual differences.

On view May 2nd, 2025 through May 17th, 2025.

More from the artists that will be on display…

Rochester-based, multi-disciplinary artist Alex visually and often three-dimensionally communicates strong emotional responses to the world. Her intricate, hand-worked pieces navigate the duality of darkness and whimsy, transforming personal experiences and social justice concerns into textured surfaces and uncanny forms, inviting contemplation. (Alex)

The struggles of womanhood echo like muffled cries underwater -- distant and unheard. Women navigate shifting life stages under drastic physical and mental changes. Such shifting brings amnesia in earlier stages of life, creating an obfuscation in past trauma, which hinders women from being related to, to relate to others and even relating to their once younger selves. (Isabella)

Dara Larson Rozen, also known as Larson Arts, is a visual artist and graphic designer currently based in Rochester, NY, with a focus on photography and mixed media. Larson explores combining multiple mediums to accomplish a variety of textures and abstract forms. Experimentation is her favorite way to find her next favorite technique. Topics such as mental health, the complexity of human emotions, and our relationships within the world, intrigue Larson. Larson expresses her confusing and depressing thoughts by presenting them in colorful and busy designs. She investigates the ironies and hypocrisies within our society and isn’t afraid to use humor or shock to get across her message. She likes her ideas to be thorough and thoughtful, even when connecting ideas or proposing topics that may seem out of the ordinary. (Dara)
