ARTID INTERNATIONAL AND THE ARCHIPELAGO PROJECT in support of the Roc Music
Collective Composition Music & Visual Arts Residency is an intensive learning experience where youth from different backgrounds collaborate to build an artistic community across racial, cultural and social class lines.
For one week in January and two weeks in August, ROCmusic students from across
the City of Rochester, New York explore current social issues that impact their lives and
local community in order to create music and visual artworks born out of their own ideas and
collective imagination. The residency is made possible through a partnership between
Dr. Sonia James-Wilson, Founder and President of ArtID International, and the leadership
of the Archipelago Project, including Dr. Armand Hall, Dan Trahey and Garrett Mendez. This
work is an expression of their commitment to supporting youth to take the lead in the creative
process, move beyond their comfort zones, and use their creativity to influence social change.
