Dear Rochester friends,

We have three bits of news to share with you on this lovely July day!

1 // THE YARDS has the honor of serving as home base for the artists during WALL\THERAPY again this year. The space will provide a relaxing spot for artists to rest, gather, and grab a bite between stretches of installing their murals.

The week-long street art festival kicks off TONIGHT, 6-9 PM, with a reception for “IMPACT!” This exhibition will take place at 1975 Gallery (89 Charlotte Street) and will showcase artwork from all the 2015 participating WALL\THERAPY artists in support of IMPACT! (IMProving Access to Care by Teleradiology). Learn more at Check WALL\THERAPY’s site for a list of participating artists, related events, and updates.

2 // The August Residency deadline for applications is Saturday, July 25. During this residency, THE YARDS will be divided into studio spaces. Four to five artists will be selected for a month-long time slot.

During the month, there will be opportunities for you to present your past and present work with your fellow residents, THE YARDS team, and the Rochester community. We will also host guest lectures and open studio visits during Saturday Market hours. The residency begins August 8. To apply, visit

3 // With best wishes, we send off Sarah Rutherford, co-founder of THE YARDS, who is transitioning to a new workspace in her own private art studio. THE YARDS would like to extend our congratulations and support to Sarah as she takes the next step in her artistic career. We wish Sarah success and growth in this new chapter, and are grateful for her passion, vision, and effort in helping build and define THE YARDS as it is today.

We are also appreciative of the opportunity given to us by Mike Calabrese and the late Richard Calabrese, who provided the space for our vision to thrive. What started as a crazy idea among creative friends nearly four years ago will move forward with the same mission of creating a collaborative haven for Rochester’s artists and art enthusiasts. We look forward to a fun-filled future!

With love and respect,
